The Role
The Debt Collection Specialist is responsible for proactively contacting customers regarding overdue accounts, maintaining accurate records of communications and repayment arrangements, and working collaboratively with internal teams to resolve account issues. The role aims to recover outstanding debts while maintaining professional and respectful communication with customers, ensuring compliance with company procedures and supporting positive customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Contact customers by phone, email, and mail regarding overdue accounts and clearly communicate the agreed terms.
- Maintain accurate records of all communications, promise dates, and repayment plans.
- Ensure customer details are up to date and update records if necessary.
- Escalate any disputes to the relevant manager and coordinate with the operations team on outstanding works in order to meet the customer’s expectations and secure payment for work completed within agreed terms.
- Negotiate payment plans or settlements to recover debt.
- Identify risk debt and escalate to a debt collection agency after final attempts have been unsuccessful.
- Prepare customer account reconciliation statements upon request.
- Email invoices and other compliance documents as required.
Your Qualifications
- 5+ years of debt collection experience working in a similar industry
- Construction or Service-based (Electrical/Mechanical) industry
- Experience using ERP system is beneficial
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions
- Organised and able to achieve deadlines
- Excellent verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to listen
- Proven attention to detail
