Employee Spotlight: Cherie

We know that human resources professionals (HR) are responsible for employee welfare, promoting harmony and engagement within the company, and maintaining a safe and empowering work environment. But HR is more than that. Let’s focus the spotlight on Cherie to discover the scope of an HR Lead’s responsibilities for one of our clients.

Can you describe your role at Yempo?

This Human Resources Lead role is responsible for ensuring that the workload among team members is balanced and that everyone in the team is given accountabilities, training, and assistance. In this position, I oversee day-to-day activities, delegate tasks, and ensure that urgent requests are being handled accordingly.

Aside from assisting with the Australia payroll, I am also responsible for preparing Singapore payroll.

When did you start working at Yempo?

I started in 2016, when the client signed a new contract with Yempo, which is a blessing.

What can Yempo employees contact you about?

All my responsibilities are directed at the client and I don’t provide any internal assistance to Yempo employees. However, I’m a good listener, and prefer to speak with directness.

Can you share any latest projects you’re working on in 2021?

2021 is a busy year, a lot is happening in the background.

What do you love most about your job?

Teamwork and diversity.

What are your strongest skills?

Experience has always been the best teacher. Because of it, I would consider these two as my strongest skills:

  • Organisation. A skill worth acquiring as it makes life easy
  • Resilience. A must-have to survive

What was a challenge you experienced at Yempo and how was it solved?

I was nominated as the Lead Organizer of the Yempo 2018 Christmas Party. It was fun and at the same time challenging due to constraints but with teamwork, dedication, and resourcefulness, we were able to deliver a night of fun-filled activities.

What do you like best about Yempo’s culture?

Yempo’s commitment to give a helping hand is admirable. Admittedly, it feels good to help especially in this pandemic, but really it is the right thing to do.

Kudos to Yempo for coming up with the idea of converting leave credits to cash and donate a portion of it. Two thumbs up!

Which core value (commitment, excellence, community) is the most important to you? Why?

All the three core values are important, but what weighs more for me, is commitment. When I’m committed on to something, with the right goal in mind, the next steps become easy to perform.

Where do you see your career 5 years from now?

I’m not particularly a career-oriented person, but I would definitely love to stay and continue working with our current client.

Do you have quotes, advice, or mottos that you follow that might inspire other Yempo employees?

“If you will it, you can achieve it’’.

I’m a strong believer of willpower. I read this line ages ago and have held on to it ever since.
