Role

The Technical Consultant delivers practical Microsoft 365 solutions that improve how clients manage information, automate work, and collaborate. The role combines hands-on Power Platform and SharePoint development with consulting: understanding business needs, shaping fit for purpose solutions, and taking them through design, build, testing, deployment and handover.

The primary focus is Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint Online, including custom forms, workflow automation, information architecture, intranet and collaboration solutions, migration and targeted SharePoint development. The role also provides a small amount of specialist support for minor enhancements and development requests escalated through the service desk.

In short: turn business problems into well-designed, supportable Microsoft 365 solutions, and help

Key Responsibilities

Power Platform solution delivery

  • Design, build, test and deploy business solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate and Microsoft Lists or SharePoint as appropriate.
  • Create canvas apps, customized SharePoint forms, approval processes, notifications, integrations and workflow automation that are reliable and easy to support.
  • Work with Dataverse and model-driven capabilities where they are the right fit for the requirements and delivery context.
  • Apply sound development practices, including solution structure, environment management, connection references, configuration, documentation and controlled deployment.
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing applications and automations, with attention to performance, maintainability, security, and user experience.

SharePoint consulting & development

  • Design and configure SharePoint Online solutions including sites, hubs, libraries, lists, metadata, content types, permissions, navigation, search and page experiences.
  • Deliver SharePoint development and customization using appropriate Microsoft 365 approaches, including SPFx, PnP PowerShell, Microsoft Graph and modern extensibility patterns where required.
  • Advise clients on information architecture, document management, collaboration, governance and practical use of SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
  • Perform content migrations to SharePoint and Teams using third party tools.
  • Contribute to intranet, document management, migration, governance and collaboration projects from discovery through to implementation and handover.
  • Assess requirements carefully and recommend configuration before custom development where this will deliver a simpler, more supportable outcome.

Consulting & project delivery

  • Run or support discovery workshops, stakeholder interviews and requirements sessions with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Translate business needs into clear solution designs, user stories, estimates, delivery tasks, and acceptance criteria.
  • Own assigned work through the full delivery lifecycle, including build, testing, defect resolution, deployment, documentation, training and transition to support.
  • Communicate progress, risks, decisions and dependencies clearly, and escalate early when scope, quality or delivery outcomes are at risk.
  • Create usable client-facing and internal documentation, including solution designs, configuration records, test evidence, deployment notes and support guidance.

Service desk & minor enhancements

  • Provide specialist assistance for SharePoint and Power Platform incidents, defects and minor enhancement requests escalated through the service desk.
  • Diagnose issues, confirm impact and priority, document work clearly and manage assigned requests within agreed service expectations.
  • Distinguish support, minor enhancement and project work, and assist with scoping or escalation where a request requires a larger piece of delivery.
  • Improve supportability by documenting recurring issues, known solutions, and relevant client configuration.

Pre-sales & internal collaboration

  • Support scoping, estimates, demonstrations, proposals and tenders for Power Platform, SharePoint and broader Modern Workplace opportunities.
  • Contribute practical delivery insight, so proposed solutions are achievable, appropriately governed and aligned to client needs.
  • Collaborate with consultants, developers, project leads and service desk team members, sharing knowledge and contributing to reusable delivery patterns and standards.
  • Participate in peer reviews and quality assurance to improve consistency across solutions and client outcomes.

 Security, governance & information handling

  • Design and deliver solutions in line with client security, privacy, records management and information protection requirements.
  • Apply least-privilege access, appropriate environment and data controls, and secure development practices.
  • Handle client information, credentials and production access carefully and in accordance with client policies and agreed client procedures.

Additional duties

  • Carry out additional activities as directed from time to time by the manager of this position.
  • Increase job knowledge through Microsoft learning, hands-on experimentation, peer collaboration, and participation in company-wide initiatives and meetings.
  • Comply with the Organization’s Information Security Management System (ISMS), including all applicable information security policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience delivering Microsoft Power Platform solutions, particularly Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing SharePoint Online solutions for document management, collaboration, intranets, or business processes.
  • Experience working directly with clients to discover requirements, explain options, and deliver solutions through production.
  • Experience supporting or enhancing live Microsoft 365 solutions in a structured service or delivery environment.
  • Experience with consulting projects, migrations, governance, or information architecture is highly regarded.

Technical skills

  • Strong capability with Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Lists.
  • Working knowledge of Dataverse, solution management and Power Platform environment and deployment concepts.
  • SharePoint development capability using relevant technologies such as SPFx, TypeScript or JavaScript, PnP PowerShell, and Microsoft Graph.
  • Sound understanding of Microsoft 365 permissions, identity, security and governance as they relate to delivered solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across configuration, customization, data, permissions and integrations.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps or comparable tools for work tracking, source control and deployment is an advantage.

Consulting skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate between business and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong discovery, analysis and problem-solving skills, with good judgement about when to configure, automate, or develop.
  • Able to estimate and plan work, manage competing priorities and take ownership within a small, fast-moving delivery team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to testing, documentation, and handover.
  • Comfortable facilitating workshops, demonstrating solutions and providing practical user or administrator training.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Microsoft certifications in Power Platform, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 or Azure are highly regarded
