My Yempo Journey: From Uncertainty to Growth
by Cha, Senior Operations Support
Sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin in unexpected ways. My time with Yempo started during a period of uncertainty: our previous company had closed amid a challenging phase for the Australian mining industry, leaving those of us who remained with questions like “Who will support us now? What happens next?”
Then Michelle entered the picture, a steady presence and guiding hand, marking the start of a path I hadn’t anticipated but that has since become one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life.
I was already grateful to my first employer for giving me a start as a fresh graduate, but Yempo offered a different kind of support – practical, personal, and genuinely encouraging. Friends from college and high school have often remarked how lucky I am to work for a company that truly cared about its people, and they were right.
When we joined, Yempo was just over a year old. There were only a handful of employees, and we were in a separate office, yet the admin team went out of their way to make us feel included. Monthly gatherings, annual celebrations, and small thoughtful touches helped build a sense of community.
Over time, we built friendships, shared stories, and created memories beyond the office walls – karaoke nights, drinks after long shifts, even trips out of town. Yempo wasn’t just a workplace; it was a place where we belonged.
Then the pandemic hit, and everything changed.
Businesses slowed, layoffs spread, and uncertainty grew. Yet Yempo stepped up, providing the tools and guidance for us to work from home, checking in on our well-being, and making sure no one felt isolated. While in-person gatherings disappeared, we adapted with virtual events, online celebrations, and creative ways to stay connected. Even amid disruption, the sense of community, purpose, and belonging remained – a culture of care that has kept me at Yempo for so many years.
Now, here we are: stronger, wiser, and thriving. We’ve returned to organizing events that bring the same energy and connection as before, even while working remotely. Looking back, those early days of uncertainty feel almost surreal. We were navigating constant change, tight deadlines, and the stress of a world turned upside down. But we weren’t just surviving, we were learning, evolving, and building resilience, discovering new ways to stay connected and support one another. That process shaped us into a stronger, more cohesive team.
Where We Are with Yempo Today
I can say with confidence that we wouldn’t be where we are today without the unwavering support of Yempo.
Over time, as challenges and uncertainties arose, they offered more than practical solutions, they provided steady guidance, encouragement, and care. Thoughtful check-ins and small gestures of connection reminded us we weren’t facing difficulties alone.
My Yempo journey has been far more than a career, it’s been a story of connection, growth, and unexpected opportunities. We’ve celebrated major milestones, built friendships that extend beyond the office, and created memories that will last a lifetime. From small daily moments to team celebrations, every experience reinforced a sense of belonging and purpose.
Here’s to more years, milestones, memories, and continued growth. And to Yempo: thank you for turning challenges into opportunities, supporting your people through every twist and turn, and creating a workplace that truly feels like home.
