Ten Years of Success and a People-Centered Culture: My Yempo Story

by Riza, Director of People and Culture

I initially wanted to be a doctor, but life led me down a different path in the business world. After starting a family, I focused on corporate HR within the BPO industry.

As my career steadily progressed, working a graveyard shift and the fast-paced, work demands took a toll on sleep, rest, and my health. This eventually impacted the quality of family time I could spend, especially with my three growing children.

During times of stress or fatigue, I’d always wonder if there was a rewarding career I could pursue where I would not have to sacrifice family time. I would often pray to God for the right direction. When I saw Yempo’s open role for HR Manager, I checked the company website. The role and the organization felt right for me. And when I got the job offer, I knew God answered what I was asking for.

Getting to know the company

Yempo did not look like any of my old workplaces. The Yempo space was very colorful and artsy. There were cozy work nooks, and people did not have to clock in and out using biometrics which was a staple thing in most BPOs. Overall, the vibe was very relaxed.

Work colleagues had access to food, snacks, and coffee. We looked forward to our month-end gatherings when we would celebrate our monthly wins with pizza, wine, and games. We were a small community that valued excellence but also put a premium on engagement and camaraderie.

My journey in Yempo has been very positive and I am as happy as I was when I joined 10 years ago. Despite the company’s growth, it is amazing to note that Yempo has managed to retain the very same culture and core values that I first encountered years ago. Post-pandemic, with a predominantly WFH workforce, this is no small feat. Credit goes to our founders Michelle, Ian, and all our employees.

How I have grown as a professional at Yempo

Despite having a relatively flat and lean organizational structure, my role has evolved multiple times. I started as HR Manager, then moved to become GM for the Cebu site and now I am the Director for People and Culture.

We have soldiered through a pandemic, promoted engagement within our remote workforce, and managed diverse clients by constantly pursuing improvement, excellence, and scalability.

Now, we are better equipped to provide quality service to our clients, employees, and key stakeholders.

I am grateful that Yempo has given me a professional platform where I can continue to grow and shine.

The future for Yempo

In line with its core values, Yempo fosters strong partnerships and continues to pursue excellence.

After being certified under ISO 9001:2015 on Quality Management Systems, Yempo is currently working on its certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS) under ISO 27001.

Through the years, I have witnessed how Yempo has thrived from its humble beginnings to its current level of success.

I am extremely proud to have been part of its growth, in as much as it has been a part of my journey.
